Bodybuilders place a great deal of extra stress on their muscles and on their bodies in general. For this reason, bodybuilding supplements are often necessary to help the body repair muscles and to build new muscles.

A Meal Replacement

Soy protein is ideal for bodybuilders for many reasons. First of all, these bodybuilding supplements are a complete protein that is considered to be among the best in protein digestibility. In addition, soy protein is low in cholesterol, fat, and lactose. Because soy is low, or completely free, of lactose, it is a great nutritional supplement for bodybuilders who are lactose intolerant. In addition, because soy protein is a complete protein, soy bodybuilding supplements can be used as a total meal replacement.

Helpful Additives

Soy protein is also valuable to bodybuilders because it contains phytosterols, saponins, and isoflavones. Phytosterols help manage cholesterol. Saponins aid in the function of the immune system and also combine with cholesterol, which reduces the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body through the small intestine. Isoflavones are antioxidants that help keep the body clean of free radicals.

Prevent Overtraining

Studies involving soy protein have shown that soy bodybuilding supplements can help prevent overtraining. In fact, one study found that men who were placed on an overtraining routine, who also took protein supplements, gained measurable positive changes in testosterone and hemoglobin.

Nitrogen Balance

Soy protein bodybuilding supplements can also assist in maintaining nitrogen balance in bodybuilders. Having a proper nitrogen balance helps encourage muscle growth. To maintain a balance of nitrogen, equal amounts of nitrogen need to go in to the body as leaves the body. Nitrogen leaves the body through urine, feces and sweat. Since bodybuilders tend to sweat often, a great deal of nitrogen is lost. With bodybuilding supplements, this nitrogen is replaced.

Overeating

Some bodybuilders purposely overeat in order to help encourage muscle gain. This is often accomplished by eating excess fats and carbohydrates. Soy protein, on the other hand, increases metabolism at twice the rate of fats and carbohydrates. Therefore, a high soy protein diet can actually help bodybuilders burn fat and calories why still adding bulk from overeating. In this way, more lean weight is gained rather than fat weight.

High Endurance Athletes

Bodybuilders who engage in high endurance sports can also benefit from soy nutritional supplements. Current research indicates that high endurance athletes should include 1.2 to 1.5 grams of protein per day for every kg of the athlete’s body weight.

Popular forms of soy bodybuilding supplements include protein shakes and protein bars. Other soy protein foods, such as soy nuts and tofu are also available. No matter the form of soy intake, soy protein is a valuable addition to any bodybuilder’s diet.
