Eating foods made from soybeans certainly should be on the top of your list of things to do if you are searching for a diet to lower cholesterol. There are just a handful or two of foods out there which are proven to be cholesterol lowering foods, and soyfoods are one of them.

Do you see the difference between eating a low cholesterol diet and eating a diet rich in foods that lower cholesterol? You might find it ironic, but it's true that eating certain types of fat is what can lower cholesterol. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats actually lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and raise HDL (good) cholesterol. Saturated fat and trans fats do the opposite, they raise bad cholesterol and lower good cholesterol.

Your ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol is as important as your total cholesterol level

For anyone wanting to improve your cholesterol ratio, you must educate yourself on those foods rich in "good" (aka monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) fat, then add them to your diet everyday. Doing this will raise your HDL levels and improve your ratio. By eating foods high in good fat, seriously limiting all foods which contain bad fat, and eating lots of food high in fiber, you've got the winning ticket to lower your cholesterol, and more importantly, improving your HDL LDL ratio. Try this method to lower cholesterol naturally, and hopefully avoid cholesterol medication.

So if you are interested in lowering cholesterol, let's take a look at soybeans and foods made from soybeans. Soybeans are high in fat, and 77% of that fat is the good kind (mono and polyunsaturated). Soybeans are also high in fiber, but not all soy products are high in fiber so check the label to know. This combination of good fat and fiber makes soybeans a terrific food to eat regularly as part of a heart healthy diet. Since it is clear that soybeans are a cholesterol lowering food, it's even more clear that we all should be eating more of them!
